EL Chimo is a small village on the winding road into Puerto Vallarta and the last truly fishing village left. This spectacular dive site accessible by boat lies about 26 miles along the southern coast of the Bay of Banderas. With Moderate to Strong Currents this dive site is reserved for advanced divers only. EL Chimo has unique topography which makes this divesite truly interesting, from sloping white sands at 60 to 130 feet, Amazing drop offs into the abyss and an over abundance of marine life. El Chimo is full day trip so divers should be prepared for a rather full day of diving.
El Chimo can best be experianced by divers trained to use doubles or re-breathers. However, for the recreational diver who just wishes to experiance Puerto Vallartas majestic and awe inspiring diving this would be the place to visit.
As with other dive locations this site is populated by an incredible number of different species of fish. Commonly seen are Moorish Idols, Leather Bass, Golden Eye Grunts, Razor Surgeons, Harlequin Wrasse. In addition the site is a great place to encounter the The great Pacific Manta, Sailfish, Dolphins, Turtles, large schools of Jacks and occasionally whale sharks during May through July.
